Dream
Former journalists Karen Hamerlynck and Edwin van der Meijde first set foot in the old Customs building on Stieltjesstraat in 2002. The couple dreamed of creating a small luxury hotel in a historic building by the water. The actual realisation of the hotel took 14 months, four months longer than the contractor had anticipated. But then, a lot had to be done in the badly neglected national monument erected by Lodewijk Pincoffs in 1879.
The Making of was featured on RTL4 in 43 episodes of the docu-soap 'Hotel aan de Maas'.
You can watch some episodes on the film channel on this site. It took six years before the doors of their Suitehotel Pincoffs were officially opened.
Weblog
Their experiences can be found on their weblog. For recent footage and some episodes from RTL4's docu-soap Hotel aan de Maas, watch the film channel on this site.
Exciting mix
With the help of stylist Mirjam van der Rijst and several advisers, a warm and romantic place with lots of personal attention was designed. The hotel, located in a national monument from 1879, has a fascinating mix of old and new; of modern and classic.
Authentic details and antiques are interspersed with design and contemporary furniture. The views of the harbours, the river and Rotterdam's famous bridges are stunning and make the hotel unique.

Art & Pincoffs
Beautiful photographs of the raw romance of the Rotterdam port can be admired on all our rooms and suites. They were taken decades ago by highly esteemed photographers such as
Cas Oorthuys, Aart Klein and Frits Rotgans. Their archives are managed by the Dutch Photo Museum in Las Palmas.
Collaboration
With the help of the Fotomuseum and the Centrum voor Beeldende Kunst, the photos hang in beautiful frames in our hotel. Meter-sized enlargements of two masterful images by Cas Oorthuys hang in the stairwell and in our Living.
A beautiful canvas by Willem Westbroek hangs in our Library: High visit...
The Style Room features work by Vivian Ronden that focuses on Rotterdam.
Art Suite
In our Art Suite, also for gatherings of up to 4 people, Liesbeth van Ginneken has created a beautiful painting: Spread Bed. The canvas measures 3 by 4 metres and is the largest Van Ginneken has made in the past quarter century.
In 2001, Liesbeth van Ginneken signed up for the project Going Dutch, in which large companies in Rotterdam had their house collections projected on the exterior facade. Van Ginneken had dozens of exhibitions in recent years.
Under Van Ginneken's inspired guidance, several artists designed special furniture for this Art Suite.
Artists collaborating are:
* Lamps by Bomdesign, artist Michael Bom (Bomdesign)
* Dukdalven meeting table by Refunc, artist Jan Korbes (Refunc)
* Mosaic with Delft blue shards in the bathrooms, artist Inge Suttorp
* Braided rubber bedside tables and side table and Pincoffs key rings, artist Jan Willem van Breugel (Wheels-on-Fire)
* Rocking chairs S9904 are upholstered with jute PTT mailbags by artist Marlene den Dekker.
* Clock case, made of felt underlayment, artist Charlotte Kusters (Kusters-Montens)
* Spread bed (3x4 metres), painting by Liesbeth van Ginneken (Van Ginneken)
Vivian Ronden designed the route signs and room numbering in the hotel with her agency inZakeKunst. These have become little gems, executed in the graphic images typical of her work. Together, the 17 room numbering signs tell the story of the people who lived near businessman and politician Lodewijk Pincoffs in the late 19th century.
